Welcome to the GameZone - Our new gaming page for news, views and reviews

Welcome to the brand new Nemesis site for gamers. This site welcomes all those who have any interest in computer and video games and who want to share their thoughts with anyone else. It is clear to anyone who buys games that, unless you are rich, we can't afford to buy games every week. What we need are informed and considered opinion from people who play games. This need, leads many of us to buy magazines in search of demos and reviews. I am sure that you will all agree that an interest in games necessitates the purchasing of magazines: it's the only protection against that child-like desire to buy on the basis of the seductive graphics on the box. But the trouble with the magazines is that they are, like all commercial magazines, hand-in-glove with the manufacturers on whose advertising they depend. Too often, given that their reviewers don't actually buy games, they allow factors to influence their judgement, like how innovative a game is, when many of us are only concerned in playing a decent game. At the end of the day, too often one buys a game, well received in the magazines and finds that it is woefully inadequate. At the end of the day, as I'm sure anyone who has borrowed a game will know, there is a huge difference in acquiring games at no cost and paying 30 or 40 quid for one.

The ordinary magazines can afford to be generous in their appreciation of some great 'new idea' or 'effect' in a game but what we are concerned with is the game play. Is it worth a fifth or sixth of one's weekly income or would we be better saving our games money for a different game? This web site plans to offer reviews by gamers for gamers, by people who are just ordinary everyday people, not these flash, well-off middle class university-people who run the magazines. This will be the sites greatest strength and its greatest weakness. By which I mean, we don't get sent copies to review and so we can only really review the small number of games that we actually get chance to play, which usually means the ones we buy, or borrow, which is not many, which will probably mean the site doesn't change too often but, for those who log on anything like regularly, we hope the reviews we offer might help you make a better informed decision about what to buy. Obviously this will mean that we can't compete with the magazines in offering a monthly compendium of game reviews. All we can do is to offer honest reviews and discussion of the games we play and offer the opportunity for others to express their opinions. But, at least it is a place where one can read genuine, independent reviews from individuals who have actually spent their hard-earned cash on the products. So, bare with us and check this space and we hope to offer some idea of what the current crop of games are like.
